Do Not Bend is the third solo album by British pop musician and songwriter Eric Stewart, a founding member of 10cc runners waist pouch. Released in 2003, it did not chart in the UK or US.
The album was recorded over five years at Stewart’s Templar Studios in France extra long football socks, with final sessions for the female backing vocals done at David Gilmour’s Astoria Studios in London. Stewart plays all the instruments himself although he is assisted with the backing vocals. Stewart would use the same approach for Viva la Difference with the exception of hiring drummer Alain Merlingeas for the recording.
Stewart has said the album’s title was inspired by a label posted on a package being mailed by his son Jody runners belt pack. Stewart also wrote a song using the same title that was released on his next solo album Viva la Difference.
The first CD pressing had a second disc featuring demos including a recreation of the original demo version for the 10cc track „I’m Not in Love“. Stewart re-recorded the song in its original arrangement after discovering that the original demo no longer existed for the song. The demo for „The Star Didn’t Show“ which was recorded for the penultimate 10cc studio album freezing water bottles…Meanwhile with Kevin Godley on lead vocals was also included with Stewart on lead vocals. There were three additional tracks including „Tek Dis A Woman“, „A Code of Silence“ and „Shine“ are also included.
The album was available via Stewart’s own Strawberry Studios label.
